SOPA Blackout

Just a quick post to everyone reading, I would like to get the support of all my friends to show our displeasure about SOPA, an Internet censorship ruling to passed in the American Congress but which will everyone.

On the outside the SOPA is purley to block piracy websites, but if people read deeper into it they will see a darker side. I could write a big piece on it here but there are a lot of places to get information on SOPA and what it is about.

On January 18th many Internet websites, especially those of which will be directly affected by this will be partaking in a “blackout”. By doing this 100s of 1000s of sites will go offline for that day. I am asking my friends to deactivate their Facebook accounts for that day, nothing will be lost in doing this and you can simply enable it again the following day. If you read up on what SOPA is about you will see why it is important that we all show that we are not supporting it.

This is not a forward, this is not a red letter this is real. It is not only piracy sites that will be affected by the SOPA, Blogs, Facebook, YouTube, and many link sharing sites like Redit, Digg and Stumbleupon, etc will be blacklisted if they where to share 1 link to another site which only has to have once itself breached a single copyright infraction. Once blacklisted ISPs will be forced to stop all access to that site for their customers. Innocent sites will be affected, innocent mistakes will be disciplined to the maximum effect. This is unfair and unjust, the Internet is ours and no government has the right to sanction it.

Read this to understand SOPA

About Karl Talbot (Mentality)

My Full name is Karl Liam Talbot, I have a little girl Ruby-Lynn. We live in a small little town called St Helens in Merseyside. I am currently trying to sort my life out and get it sort of heading in the right direction, only I don't actually know what that is yet, It was going that way for a while, but certain obstacles make some of what I want impossible. Hopefully in time that will change. Ideally I would like to work in IT, but many of my jobs couldn't have been any different. I have worked in the Care industry most of my current working life since I left school.
